Kane Brewing – Ocean, NJ

To find another brewery that has a more “we don’t do this for the money” business approach than Kane Brewing Company can easily be a herculean task. This place is one of a kind. It is only open two days out of the week, is tucked obscurely inside an industrial park behind a Costco that people have to work hard to find, and its year-round offerings only consist of 2-3 beers. However, despite everything they have going against them, Kane is, and strives to be, the epitome of a neighborhood brewery. Even with the limited number of beers they offer, all of their beers are above and beyond what you’d expect from the same state!

Kane Brewing is a shared use building, with a shared entry way with another business. Once you go through the internal entry way, you are warmly greeted with aninviting tap room. It is well lit, nicely finished, and decently open. After the initial tap room is a wide open brewing room, with tables to sit while you have beer, as well as another bar with a couple extra taps. This room is quite practical in its purpose, and much cooler, but they have some nice wood picnic tables, and some upright barrels. Overall, it is a really cool place to be, and a fun place to try delicious beer.

At Kane Brewing you will find the following delicious year-round beers-

  • Ovehead- Overhead is an American-style Imperial IPA. This beer is loaded with some amazing hops; Amarillo, Columbus, Centennial and Simcoe. It’s bittered with a gigantic charge of Columbus and Simcoe early in the kettle that is followed by several rounds of late kettle and whirlpool hops using Amarillo, Centennial and Simoce.
  • Single Fin- It is a Belgian-style Blonde Ale. This beer is modeled after a Belgian Single or Enkel which is a low-alcohol table beer for monks in Trappist monastery. They are traditionally brewed for daily consumption and can be difficult to find beyond the walls of the monastery.
  • Head High- This is their interpretation of an American-style India Pale Ale (IPA). This beer is all about the hops; they use a blend of five different varieties all grown in the Pacific Northwest.

Other than quality beers Kane has some very snazzy merchandise and growlers that you can purchase both at the front and back bars. Plus, unlike other pickier breweries, Kane will also be more than happy to fill growlers from other breweries, and doesn’t impose a limit on how many you can fill in one trip.
